Mother's Day 2011

My wild animals
7:00am- Eric went over the the church
7:15am- All three boys sneak out to the kitchen.  I can kind of hear them, but I stayed in bed.
7:45am- Boys bring a platter into my room, marching behind it saying, "Happy Mother's Day!"
I am so blessed!
Elijah:  I made you the bagel, but I only buttered one side because I didn't know if you'd want butter or not.
Micah:  This is juice in this cup, not coffee.  I know you really like coffee, but I didn't know how to work the coffee maker, so I gave you juice instead.
Isaiah:  Mommy, sorry I kind of poured too much milk in your cereal.  I hope you like Special K.

They all sat around the bed, grinning and watching me eat, happy as could be.  Their first breakfast for Mommy all by themselves was a huge success.

Milestones

Some people run a marathon.
Others lose 100 pounds.
Children learn to walk or crawl.
I throw away a 7 year old baby monitor.
I woke up this morning to a strange breathing in the room. After determining that it wasn't Eric, I noticed a small lump on the couch and yes, it was the source of the raspy breathing. Isaiah must have gotten up sometime in the night, come into our room, and snuggled onto our couch. He even made himself a pillow out of a blanket and covered up with another one. I had no idea.
It was an obvious sign that he has grown. I'm sure he'll still yell for his mommy another time or two in his life, but basically it occurred to me that he now knows how to get what he needs without much help from me. And when he needs help he'll ask, but for the most part, he's pretty independent. The youngest. The baby.
And the monitor has been struggling for a while now, buzzing, zapping, barely picking up sounds anymore, yet every time I've tried to cease its use, I couldn't sleep well.
But tonight, I believe its gone for good.
Milestone.

Sick Mamma and New Car

I haven't felt great for a few days now and it all came to a fevered pitch last night. Hives, chills, fever, then sweating, achy all over, not my preferred reason for being awake at 3am. So, I stayed home from work today and listened to Eric wrangle the boys all day. I took a nap or two, watched lots of TLC and Michael Jackson memorial coverage. Now, I'm feeling much better and think I'll try to return to life tomorrow. I've been fever free with no drugs for a few hours now, so I think everyone is safe.
In other news, a few weeks ago we bought the car in the above photo. Since my new teaching job will require a bit of a commute, we knew we'd need something for me to drive back and forth every day so Eric could keep the van for boy use. Lots of research later, we bought a used (08) Nissan Versa. Welcome to the family little car. :)

Pictures of first day

Hugging daddy goodbye,
Hugging mommy goodbye,
Waiting on the step for the bus,
Waiting in the tree for the bus,
Time to go at last. Just so it's recorded for posterity, on Elijah's first day of Kindergarten, the bus did forget to pick him up. We waited for 40 minutes in our front yard and were about to give up and drive him to his first day when we heard the bus coming up the hill. It had already dropped all of the other kids off at school, so on his first day, he and the bus helper had the whole bus to themselves. Elijah would probably prefer it that way. ;)

Growing Up

Eric sent me this picture while I was in class today. You don't think he might be grooming his son for a particular sport maybe?

Overheard this morning...

I'm in the bedroom getting ready, the boys are all eating breakfast. Eric is in the shower.

Elijah: Micah, when I'm 11 years old, you'll still only be like 7 or something.

Micah: I'm getting big too Ewijah!

Elijah: Yeah, but you'll never be as big as me.

Micah: Yes I will. I went off the diving board.

Elijah: No you didn't. I jumped off the diving board. You had to have the teacher help you.

Micah: I DID DO IT! I DID EWIJAH! I JUMP OFF THE DIVING BOARD! Hmmmph!

There is a tense silence and I can just hear Micah's blood boiling. Elijah is well aware of Micah's low boiling point and takes full advantage. The thought crosses my mind to go out to the kitchen and intervene before Micah ends up throwing his Cheerios at Elijah. I'm glad I didn't though because here's what I heard next.

Elijah: Let's not argue Micah. Here, look at my Bible Man magazine with me.

Micah: OK Ewijah OK.

I can hear the smile in Micah's voice, and I'm so proud of Elijah for seeing that he had pushed his little brother far enough. One of those lovely sunny moments in a parent's day when you feel like you might be doing something right.

Simile Metaphor Collection

Elijah after running: My heart is beating like a coconut rolling down a hill.
Elijah on urination: Pee is like horses galloping out of the gate. Once they get started you just can't stop them.
Elijah: If school were a human I'd give it a wedgie.
Elijah: I am like a hot rod and I just want to be a plain old Ford
Elijah on the fruits of the spirit: I've got them all covered except self-control. Its like a tiny green tomato and the rest are all big ripe ones. Especially love. Its like the biggest tomato we saw in the garden tonight.
